Jay Leach has resigned from the University of Maine men’s ice hockey program according to the school.

Leach will leave the program after his second stint coaching with the Black Bears.  He originally was an assistant coach under Shawn Walsh and helped guide the Black Bears to an NCAA Final Four appearance in 1988.  He had also worked as a coach for the Hartford Whalers, New York Islanders, New Jersey Devils, Los Angeles Kings, Atlanta Thrashers, and Washington Capitals.

The Associate Head Coach had been with the Black Bears for the past four seasons and will leave the staff with Head Coach Red Gendron, Associate Head Coach Ben Guite, and Volunteer Goalie Coach Alfie Michaud.

UMaine finished the year with a 11-21-4 record and was eliminated from the Hockey East playoffs in the first round.
