The sound of bouncing basketballs will echo in gyms around the state tonight as a brand new season begins.

The marque match-up in class A boys will pit the last two Eastern Maine champions as Hampden Academy travels to Bangor.

For the first time in 27 years the Rams will have a new head coach as Ed Kohtala takes over for Roger Reed who left to run for a seat in the Maine House of Representatives.

Their is extra incentive for class B, C and D teams to make the tournament this season as it will be the last one played at the Bangor Auditorium.

In fact the honor of playing the very last tournament game will go to the teams playing in the class C boys state championship.
