The Yankees will end Major League Baseball's unofficial first half atop the AL East, opposite the Red Sox who enter the break in the basement.

An 8-6 win over Boston gave New York their 48th win of the first half and dropped the Sox to 42-47.

Wade Miley started the game for Boston and was charged with six runs in 5.1 innings, taking his eighth loss of the season.

The Sox held a brief 3-2 lead after grabbing five hits and three runs in the third inning off Yanks' starter, Nathan Eovaldi, who improved to 9-2 with the win.

Boston out-hit New York 12-to-11 but could not keep pace with the Yankees who scored three times in the sixth and added a pair of insurance runs in the ninth.

Robert Refsnyder, playing in only his second game in the Majors, went 2-for-4 with his first career homerun and Brian McCann went 2-for-4 with a double, a homerun, and 2-RBI to lead the Yankees.

A failed rally in the ninth saw the Sox score twice and bring the tying run to the plate before Shane Victorino popped out to shallow left field to end the game.

Brock Holt, who will make the trip to Cincinnati as Boston's lone All Star, went 1-for-4 with a walk to extend his hit-streak to 11 games.

Following the Mid Summer Classic, the Sox will resume play in Anaheim with a three game series vs. the Angels, beginning Friday night at 10:10 p.m. Injured second baseman, Dustin Pedroia, is expected to be activated from the disabled list and return to the lineup for Friday's game.
