James Mersereau of Machias High School has won the McDonald’s Basketball Tournament High School Athlete of the Week with the majority of the total vote over Megan Peach of Dexter High School, Taylor Schildroth of George Stevens Academy, and Kolleen Bouchard of Houlton High School.

Mersereau was a vital part of the team’s first regional title since 1995, as he contributed in all facets for the Bulldogs.  He had 14 points in the 49-44 victory over upset minded Bangor Christian side, and then tallied 20 points in the regional final win versus top-ranked Southern Aroostook.  The senior captain also tallied a handful of dunks and impressive assists.  The Bulldogs will play Greenville on Saturday afternoon in Bangor for the Class D State crown.

Mersereau took home the vote with over 2,600 submissions this past week.
