The Hampden Academy Broncos left little doubt who was the best team in Class A this year, handily defeating Portland and avenging last year's loss to the Bulldogs in the state title game.

Hampden came out of blocks hitting 3-pointers and led from start to finish Saturday night at the Augusta Civic Center, claiming their second state title in four years with a convincing 70-50 win over Portland.

Junior Brendan McIntyre led the Broncos with 22 points in the win. Nick Gilpin had 17 points and Sophomore Ian McIntyre had 10 points. Jake Black had 9 points and Nicholas Chasse had 8.

For Portland, senior captain Stephen Alex had 14 points and Amir Moss had 12.

The Broncos finish the season at 20-2. Portland finishes at 19-3.
