The top-seed Easton Bears avoided another Cross Center upset on Thursday night, holding on to a 52-48 overtime win over the Washburn Beavers.

The Bears will play the Southern Aroostook Warriors in the Northern Maine final at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

The Beavers trailed for most of the game, but were able to knot it up 45 at the end of regulation after a back-and-forth fourth quarter.

Senior guard Logan Halverson led the Bears with 16 points. Drew Sotomayor added 14 and Jordan Doody added 12.

For the Beavers, senior guard Noah Caron had 19 points.

Junior Jackson Mathers poured in 24 points and led his Southern Aroostook Warriors to a convincing victory over the Machias Bulldogs at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor in a Thursday night Class D semifinal.

The Bulldogs spent most of the night chasing the quicker Warriors, who came away with a 67-59 win and a trip to the Northern Maine final on Saturday.

While Mathers had a big night, the Warriors also turned in a balanced scoring performance. Junior Luis Moreales had 13 points, Tyler Batchhelder had 12 and Nolan Altvater, 11.

The Central Aroostook Panthers held off a late charge from the No. 1 Southern Aroostook Warriors in a Thursday afternoon semifinal at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, earning a trip to the Northern Maine finals.

After leading by six going into the fourth quarter, the No. 4 Panthers opened up a double-digit lead and the final period. Although the Warriors were able to cut the lead with time running down, Central Aroostook left the court with a 54-49 win.

The Panthers will take on the No. 3 Shead Tigers on Saturday at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

Junior Kelsey Dominique led the Panthers with 14 points. Freshman Ashlee Harris had 10 points and Milly Anthony and Caitlyn Harris each added 9.

After a see-saw battle at the Cross Insurance Center Thursday afternoon, the Lady Tigers from Shead High School in Easport ousted the defending champion Washburn Beavers.

The No. 3 Tigers took a one-point lead on a contested layup by junior Holly Preston with 8.6 seconds to go. Two foul shots from sophomore Cassidy Wilder with 3 seconds left sealed the game, dethroning the  No. 2 Beavers 38-35.

Shead will take on the winner of Southern Aroostook and Central Aroostook in the Northern Maine finals.

Preston led the Tigers with 11 points. Senior Cierra Seeley had 10 and Wilder had 6, including those late free throws.

Freshman Kassandra Farley led the Beavers with 9 points. Emilia Churchill and Grace Braley each added 8.
