The Maine High School Basketball Tournament continued Saturday with quarterfinal action in Bangor, Augusta and Portland.

Hampden Survives Early Scare, Advances to Semifinals [BOYS]

The top-seeded Hampden Broncos held just a 20-18 halftime lead Brewer, but outscored the Witches by six in the second half for a comfortable 48-40 quarterfinal victory.

Johnny Wolfington led Hampden with four 3-pointers and 15 points, while Ian McIntyre had 14 points.

Brandon Glidden scored 14 points for Brewer in the losing effort.

Hampden advances to play 4th-seed Cony in the Class A semifinals.

Undefeated Hermon Cruises Past Belfast To Semifinals [BOYS]

The top-seed and undefeated Hermon Hawks ran past the Belfast Lions Saturday night to earn a spot in the Class B semifinals.

The Hawks put on a dominant performance, cruising past the No. 9 Lions 67-40 at the Cross Insurance Center.

It was a balanced scoring attack for Hermon. Jacob Godfrey had 15 points to lead the Hawks. Isaac Varney had 12 points. Cody Hawes and Keenan Marseille each added 10 points. >>FULL STORY>>

Pressure Lifts Top-seed Hermon Over Caribou [GIRLS]

The top-seed Hermon Hawks pressed the Caribou girls into submission Saturday afternoon, running away in the second half to a quarterfinal victory in Bangor.

Caribou held tough in the first half, trailing only by 3 points at halftime. From there, Hermon applied intense defensive pressure to the young Viking squad. Hermon built a 10-point lead by the end of the third quarter and widened it at times to 20 points in the fourth.

The final score was 59-36.

Last-second Tip-in Lifts Winslow Over Oceanside [BOYS]

The Winslow Black Raiders won a thriller Saturday afternoon in Bangor, with Jack Lapierre tipping in shot in the final second to lift his team over the Oceanside Mariners and earn a spot in the semifinals.

No. 4 Winslow was down by one point in the closing seconds when the Black Raiders held for the last shot, which bounced around the rim before Lapierre's tip-in sealed the last-second 39-38 victory.

Presque Isle Holds Off MCI In Overtime [GIRLS]

The Presque Isle Wildcats had all they could handle with MCI, but held off the Huskies in overtime on their way to a quarterfinal win in Bangor.

Emily Wheaton led the Wildcats with 36 points, knotting the game at 46 at the end of regulation with a clutch three-pointer. After the overtime period, the Wildcats came away with a 58-53 win. >>FULL STORY>>

MDI Rolls Over Washington Academy in B North Quarterfinal [BOYS]

The defending state champion MDI Trojans took control of their B North quarterfinal match-up with Washington Academy early and finished with a convincing win over the Raiders Saturday morning in Bangor.

When the buzzer sounded, No. 2 MDI  defeated No. 7 Washington Academy of East Machias 79-38 in the first game of the morning session at the Cross Insurance Center.

Senior guard Andrew Phelps led the Trojans with 19 points. Senior guard James McConomy had 12 points. >>FULL STORY>>
