Bangor Rams Claim Class AA North Crown With Win Over Edward Little [BOYS]

The Bangor Rams claimed the Class AA North title Friday night with a win over Edward Little at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland.

The top-seed Bangor held off a late charge by the No. 2 Red Eddies to come away with a 56-52 win and their first regional title since 2011.

Matt Fleming led the Rams with 27 points. Damien Vance had 12 points and Isaac Cummings had 11 points.

Wol Maiwen led the defending state champion Red Eddies with 23 points.

Bangor led by as many as 15 points early in the contest, but the Red Eddies were able to cut the lead to two points at 42-40 in the fourth quarter, and came within five points of the Rams with just 30 seconds to go. >>FULL STORY>>

Defending Champs George Stevens Oust Mattanawcook In OT [BOYS]

The three-time defending state champion George Stevens Academy Eagles will compete in another regional title game after an overtime win over the Mattanawcook Lynx Friday in Bangor.

The No. 3 Eagles moved on after outscoring the Lynx nine to three in extra time on their way to a 45-39 win at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

After struggling offensively for much of the game, sophomore Andrew Szwez came up big in overtime, scoring seven of the team's nine points.

It was a tight contest throughout, with the No. 2 Lynx leading 33-29 after three quarters of play. The game was tied at 36 points at the end of regulation

Junior Caden Mattson scored 11 points to lead the Eagles. Senior Percy Zentz had 10 points and Szwez added nine points. >>FULL STORY>>

Houlton Handles Sumner To Advance To North Final [BOYS]

The Houlton Shiretowners ended Sumner's playoff run Friday afternoon, easily handling the Tigers on their way to date at the regional final in Bangor.

No. 4 Houlton led from start to finish in the semifinal, finishing off Sumner 60-34 at the Cross Insurance Center.

The win ended the No. 8 Tigers' improbable run in the playoffs, the highlight of which was a thrilling quarterfinal win over top-seed Central Aroostook Panthers. >>FULL STORY>>

Dexter Advances To North Final With Win Over Calais [GIRLS]

The second-seed Dexter Tigers turned in a strong fourth quarter Friday night to earn a spot in Saturday's Class C North final in Bangor.

Dexter standout Peyton Grant had 22 points -- including four key free throws to seal the game -- in the 49-42 win over the No. Blue Devils at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

Avery Herrick had 17 points in the win for the Tigers.

Dexter will play for the Class C North title at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23 at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.
