Top-seed MDI Holds Off Defending Champs Winslow In Overtime [GIRLS]

It took overtime to decide the battle between two of the best teams in the region, with the top-seed MDI Trojans holding off the defending state champion Winslow Black Raiders in a thriller Wednesday night in Bangor.

After a Julia Watras three-pointer sent the game to extra time, MDI outscored Winslow 7-1 in overtime to come away with a 57-51 win.

Hannah Chamberlain led the Trojans with 16 points. Watras and Maddy Candage each had 14 points. Point guard Alexis Clorita added 13 points in the win. >>FULL STORY>>

Top-seed Hermon Stays Perfect With Win Over MCI [BOYS]

The undefeated and defending state champion Hermon Hawks pulled away from the MCI Huskies in the second half on their way to a semifinal win at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor on Wednesday.

After holding a three-point lead at the half, the Hawks opened up a 35-22 lead after three quarters on the way to a 52-35 win and a return to the regional final.

Waterville Stays Unbeaten With Semifinal Win Over Hermon [GIRLS]

Trailing at halftime, the undefeated Waterville Purple Panthers broke open their semifinal game with the Hermon Hawks open in the second half on their way to a win at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

The Wednesday match-up between the No. 3 Purple Panthers and the No. 2 Hawks was tight in the first half, but Waterville's pressure defense and held Hermon in check in the second half on the way to a 49-38 win.

Hermon did not go quietly. The Hawks cut a double-digit lead to just six points midway through the fourth quarter, but were unable to close the gap before the buzzer sounded as Waterville hit key shots in the final minute to keep the Hawks at bay. >>FULL STORY>>

Caribou Holds Off Ellsworth In Back-and-Forth Battle [BOYS]

In a back-and-forth battle at the Cross Insurance Center, the Caribou Vikings held off the Ellsworth Eagles Wednesday afternoon to advance to the Class B regional finals.

When the buzzer sounded, No. 2 Caribou defeated No. 6 Ellsworth 65-58 and punched their ticket to a Saturday final against either Hermon or MCI.

Ellsworth started strong and led 35-29 at the half, but Caribou applied the pressure in the second half and jumped out to a 51-42 lead.

Calais Rains Down Threes In Quarterfinal Win Over Madawaska [GIRLS]

The Calais Blue Devils rained three-pointers on the Madawaska Owls Wednesday morning on their way to a quarterfinal win at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

The No. 6 Blue Devils (18-1) hit a single-game, tournament-record 12 three-pointers on their way to a 74-42 win over the No. 3 Owls. Those dozen threes sets an overall tournament record regardless of class.

Junior Lauran Cook led the Blue Devils with 29 points -- including six three-pointers. Junior Olivia Huckins scored 24 points -- including five three-pointers -- in the win. >>FULL STORY>>
