Ellsworth Eagles Finish Off Orono Red Riots in Boys North Final

After a buzzer-beating semifinal  win to get into the Class B North finals, the No. 2 Ellsworth Eagles didn’t need any drama to defeat the Orono Red Riots on Friday at the Cross Insurance Center.

The Eagles handily defeated the No. 4 Red Riots 52-34 to earn a spot in the state finals on Saturday.

Bruce St. Peter had 19 points for the Eagles, and Bryce Harmon had 13.

The Eagles will play South champs Lake Region at 8:45 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 26 at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

Top-seed Houlton Shiretowners Dash Hermon's Upset Plans

The top-seed Houlton Shiretowners ended Hermon's upset run on Saturday, coming away with a 51-33 win after pulling away in the second half.

Houlton will play on at 7:05 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 26 against the South champion Gray-New Gloucester for the B state championship at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

Kolleen Bouchard led the Shiretowners with 19 points. Natalie Hill had 15 points. Aspen Flewelling had 8 points and Kristen Graham added 6.

Hill was named the McDonald's Player of the Game.

Emi Higgins led Hermon with 13 points.

Class C

George Stevens Powers Past Bucksport To Claim C North Crown

Sophomore Taylor Schildroth led the No. 1 George Stevens Academy past a tough Bucksport team Saturday night in Bangor to claim the Class C North crown and a date at the state finals.

The Eagles pulled away in the second half to a 55-43 win behind a strong performance from Schildroth, who finished with 32 points.

No. 3 Bucksport started the game with a 10-0 run before the Eagles reeled them in during the final game of the night at the Cross Insurance Center.  The Bucks were able to cut the lead to single digits in the fourth quarter, but could come no closer than 9 points.

George Stevens will play South champ Waynflete Flyers at 8:45 p.m. on Sat., Feb. 27 at the Augusta Civic Center.

Narraguagus Cruises To Victory Over Penobscot Valley in C North Final

The No. 3 Narraguagus Knights enjoyed a big lead for most of the night against the Penobscot Valley Howlers and cruised to a 45-18 win and a trip to the state finals next Saturday in Augusta.

The Lady Knights set a fast pace from the tip, putting pressure on the the No. 4 Howlers, who were plagued by turnovers and poor shooting throughout the Class C North final at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

Kelli Kennedy led the Knights with 13 points. Kayla Toppin added 10 and Madison Leighton had 9.

It was a tough night for the Howlers, who failed to score a point in the third quarter and trailed by double-digits for the entire second half.

Easton Outlasts Southern Aroostook In Class D North Final

It took four quarters and one overtime, but when the final buzzer sounded at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor Saturday, the the Easton Bears advanced to the state finals with a win over the Southern Aroostook Warriors.

It was a back-and-forth battle for much of the second half with, but the Bears left the arena with a 57-52 win and a trip to Augusta to take on the South champs.

Jordan Doody led the Bears with 20 points. Junior Jacob Flewelling had 12 points and Drew Sotomayor and Logan Halverson each added 10.

Easton will play next at 2:45 p.m. on Sat., Feb. 27 at the Augusta Civic Center for the state title.

Shead Tigers Pull Away From Central Aroostook To Claim North Crown

After a being knotted at seven at the end of the first quarter, the Shead Tigers pulled away from the Central Aroostook Panthers to claim their first regional title in 16 years.

The 44-37 win at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor on Saturday sends the Tigers to the Class D state title game in Augusta.

Senior guard Cierra Seeley led the Tigers with 13 points. Cassidy Wilder had 11 points in the win.

"It feels awesome," Seeley said after the game. "We're going to go get them Saturday, too."

Shead, of Eastport, will play Rangeley at 1:05 p.m., Sat., Feb. 27, at the Augusta Civic Center.
