The University of Maine softball team powered through a double header sweep with the Hartford Hawks on Saturday afternoon, winning by scores of 8-3 and 11-2.

The Black Bears were able to end the second contest in just six innings after taking the eight run lead into the bottom of the sixth inning.  The bats were alive in the first game as UMaine had no trouble scoring early and the Black Bears put away the Hawks with ease for the afternoon sweep.  The Black Bears are now 22-18 on the season (9-4 in the America East) and will complete the series tomorrow with a lone game from Hartford.

Game 1: Maine 8-3 Hartford

Hartford jumped out early to the tune of two runs against UMaine in the bottom of the first, but the Black Bears would rally and score eight runs of their own before the Hawks could answer.  Alyssa Derrick Rachel Harvey, and Felicia Lennon each homered in the contest and combined to drive in five of Maine’s runs.  Erin Bogdanovich moved to 7-4 on the season with the complete game victory.  She allowed 11 hits, but struck out eight Hawks batters to avoid staying in trouble from the circle.


Game 2: Maine 11-2 Hartford (6 Innings)

Rachel Harvey went deep in the contest and led the team with four runs batted in during the contest.  Harvey contributed three hits in the game and scored two runs of her own.  Felicia Lennon also had a solid performance with two hits and two RBIs for the Black Bears.  Molly Flowers picked up her ninth win of the season by pitching a complete game and allowing just two runs to score.
