Portland's Ryan Flaherty has made the Baltimore Orioles opening day roster - for the second straight year. He joins Seattle's Charlie Furbush as Mainers on a major league roster to start 2013.

Flaherty is the son of longtime USM baseball coach Ed Flaherty. A year ago, Ryan was a so-called rule -5 player, meaning if the O's didn't keep him on the major league roster he had to be returned to the Cubs. He stayed with the big league club all season.

This spring Flaherty showed his versatility and manager Buck Showalter will keep him around to play several infield and outfield positions. He hit .220 in spring games but did hit three homers and knocked in 10 runs.

The Orioles open the season against the Tampa Bay Rays.
