Steve  Kariya skates across the iceDespite improved play in the second half of the schedule the UMaine hockey team had its season come to an end with a 2-1 overtime loss to UMass Lowell in the Hockey East quarterfinals.After skating to a scoreless first period the Bears struck first on a Devin Shore goal eight minutes into the second period. The River Hawks evened the score early in the third which is how regulation would end.

The Bears played the third period and overtime without senior Joey Diamond who was ejected with two minutes to play in the second period after recieving his second major penalty of the game. In overtime, Maine goalie Martin Ouellette made a save on a shot in front of the net but was knocked down by team mate Mark Nemec leaving the net open for Lowell to deposit the game winner.

Maine finishes the season with a record of 11-19-8.
