The New England Patriots have traded backup quarterback Ryan Mallett to the Houson Texans. In exchange, the Pats get a conditional draft pick, maybe a #6, maybe a #7.

Rookie Jimmy Garoppolo beat out Mallet for the job of Tom Brady's backup. Garoppolo played the entire fourth preseason game last Thursday against the NY Giants.

The 6-foot-6 Mallett was a third round pick in 2011. He is 26-years-old.

In Houston, Mallett will challenge starting QB Ryan Fitzpatrick and rookie Tom Savage.

Remember, the Texans are coached by former Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien.
