Almost 5,000 fans checked out the first ever arena football game in Maine as the Maine Mammoths lost to the Carolina Cobras 56-42 at the Cross Arena in Portland Saturday night.

The Mammoths are part of the National Arena League (NAL). After losing on the road at Worcester in week one, the Mammoths got a chance to open at home with a lot of pomp and circumstance.

The announced attendance was 4,932.

The Cobras dominated the game despite and Mammoths first play TD pass by quarterback Jonathan Bane.

The Mammoths scored 27 points in the fourth quarter to make the game closer at the end.

Week three for the Maine team is back on the road, at Lehigh Valley next Saturday.
