A man who has been treated for a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the face, was arrested on a murder charge Wednesday as he left the hospital. The 38-year-old is accused of killing his father.

Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland said in a press release that Zachary Grant of Abbot was taken into custody as he was released from Acadia Hospital in Bangor late Thursday afternoon. He had been hospitalized at Eastern Maine Medical Center before being transferred to Acadia.

State Police detectives have been investigating the death of 61-year-old David Grant, who was found shot to death in the front yard of his mobile home in Parkman on May 12th. The State Medical Examiner's office determined that the elder Grant died of multiple gunshot wounds.

Zachary Grant was taken to the State Police barracks in Bangor and then transferred to the Piscataquis County Jail. He's expected to make his first court appearance in Dover-Foxcroft either Thursday or Friday.
