Officials in Ellsworth are investigating the death of a boater whose body was pulled from the Union River on Wednesday.

WABI-TV reports the Ellsworth Harbor Master found an empty boat along the shore, about a half mile downstream from the city docks. He then saw the man's body nearby and called police.

Officials say the victim was a man in his 50's and that he died of drowning. His identity won't be released until his family has been notified.

Police are investigating the case to try and determine what caused the man to drown. We'll update this story when more information is released.
