MDI 62 GSA 32 [BOXSCORE]

The MDI Girl's Basketball team played host to George Stevens Academy on Saturday afternoon, December 20th, and after trailing in the 1st Quarter 14-13, outscored the Eagles 49-18 the rest of the game to win 62-32.

GSA took an early lead, thanks to 7 points from Megan Nowland including a 3-pointer and a 3-pointer from Hannah Gutow. MDI was led by Kelsey Shaw with 6 points and Sarah Phelps with 5 points including a 3-pointer. At the end of the 1st Quarter, GSA led 14-13.

MDI then clamped down defensively, outscoring GSA 20-3 in the 2nd Quarter to take a 33-17 lead at the half. Shaw had 8 points, Phelps 4, Abbe Miller 4, Sierra Tapley 2 points and Keely McConomy 2 points for MDI.

In the 3rd Quarter, MDI went out on a 8-0 run to increase their lead 41-17 before Morgan Dauk hit a a free throw. In the 3rd Quarter Molly Carroll had 6 points, Shaw added 6 points and Phelps added 4 points for MDI. Alice Dillon had a 3-pointer for GSA.

In the 4th Quarter, MDI played reserves, and they responed. Haley Littlefield had 2 3-pointers for 6 points and Julianna Cleaves and Sara Norberg both sank 3-pointers for the Trojans. Morgan Dauk had 4 points for GSA.

MDI was led by Kelsey Shaw who had 20 points, while Sarah Phelps had 13 points. MDI went 13-15 from the free throw line.

GSA was led by Morgan Dauk with 10 points, while Megan Nowland had 9 points. GSA was 9-17 from the free throw line.

MDI is now 5-0 on the season, and is off until December 29th, when they start their Country trip. They play at Caribou on December 29th at 5 PM and then at Presque Isle on December 30th at 1 PM. Both games will be broadcast on WDEA AM 1370 and WDEA Internet Radio.

George Stevens Academy is now 3-2 and plays at home against Deer Isle Stonington on Tuesday December 23rd at 7 PM.
