The MDI Boy's baseball team improved to 5-1 on the season with a 4-3 come from behind victory over the Ellsworth Eagles in Ellsworth on Tuesday, April 30th.

MDI sent Tom Paola to the mound, while Ellsworth countered with Connor Maguire.

In the top of the 1st inning, Maguire set MDI down in order. Jon Phelps lined out to 2nd, Keegan McKim flied out to left filed and Tom Paola struck out swinging. MDI 0 Runs, 0 Hits, 0 Left on Base.

Ellsworth got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 1st inning, scoring 3 runs. Steven Mahon led things off with an infield single and stole second. Jake Maguire hit a fly to right field that was mishandled by Dakota Stewart and advanced to second base on the error. Mahon scored on the error. Brandon Braley ground out to the right side of the infield and Maguire advanced to third on the sacrifice. Sid St. Peter then grounded to Ben Walls at third who threw the ball away, allowing Maguire to score the second run for Ellsworth and St. Peter to go to second. Dustin Smelly then ground to short, and Jon Phelps gunned the ball to Walls at  third who applied the tag to St. Peter for the second out of the inning. Smelly then stole second base and scored on a infield hit by Connor Maguire, making the score Ellsworth 3 MDI 0. Maguire stole second base but was stranded there as Mitchell Domagala struck out. Ellsworth 3 Runs, 3 Hits, 1 LOB.

In the top of the 2nd inning, MDI got 1 run back. Walls walked and advanced to second on a fielder's choice as Adam Gray grounded to third base and was thrown out at first. . Steven Hanscom struck out. Trevor Alley then hit a long fly ball to the left fielder, Mitch Domagala who lost it in the sun. The error allowed Alley to get to second and Walls to score. Dylan Collins then struck out looking. MDI 1 run, 0 Hits 0 LOB.,

In the bottom of the second inning, Griffin Nightingale singled to start things off. Cody Del Conte struck out, and Nightingale was gunned down at second base for a strike 'em out, throw 'em out double play. Mahon then grounded out to first. Ellsworth 0 Runs, 1 Hit, 0 LOB. After two innings Ellsworth led 3-1

In the top of the 3rd inning, Ryan Littlefield flew out to center and Phelps then singled. Phelps stole second and reached third as McKim grounded out to the pitcher, Maguire who threw to first. Paola then ground out to the shortstop, Brandon Braley. MDI 0 Runs, 1 Hit, 1 LOB.

In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Jake Maguire hit a hard grounder back to Paola, the pitcher who threw to first for the first out. Braley then singled over the second base bag, and stole second. He then advanced to third when St. Peter grounded out to first, with the pitcher covering. Braley was stranded at third when Smelly struck out swinging. Ellsworth 0 Runs, 1 Hit, 1 LOB. After 3 innings Ellsworth led 3-1.

In the top of the 4th inning, MDI would score to make the score 3-2. Walls singled to right through the infield. Gray then singled through the infield into left and Walls advanced to third base. Hanscom struck out swinging for the 1st out.  Trevor Alley then doubled down the right field line scoring Walls and send Gray to third base. But Maguire then got Collins and Littlefield on swinging strikeouts stranding Gray at third and Alley at second. MDI 1 Run, 3 Hits, 2 LOB.

In the bottom of the 4th inning, Ellsworth went three up and three down. Connor Maguire grounded out to third, Domagala fouled out to first and Nightingale flew out to left. Ellsworth 0 Runs, 0 Hits, 0 LOB. After 4 inning Ellsworth led 3-2.

In the top of the 5th inning Phelps led off for MDI flying out to deep centerfield. McKim hit a pop fly single just over the reach of the diving shortstop, Griffin Nightingale. Paola flew out to right and Walls grounded out to third. MDI 0 Runs, 1 Hit, 1 LOB.

In the bottom of the 5th inning Aaron Malone batted for Cody Del Conte and grounded out to second. Mahon walked and stole second. Jake Maguire then walked. Braley hit a sacrifice fly to center, and Mahon advanced to third on the fly. Maguire then stole second, but St. Peter grounded out to first with Paola covering. Ellsworth 0 Runs, 0 Hits, 2 LOB. At the end of 5 innings, Ellsworth led 3-2.

Adam Gray reached first on an error to the third baseman, Mahon. Tanner Bickford ran for Gray, and went to second when Dylan Carroll, batting for Hanscom, laid down a sacrifice bunt to the first baseman. Trevor Alley then walked. Collins sturck out swining for the second out. Littlefield then waled to load the bases but Maguire got Phelps to fly out to left field for the third out. MDI 0 Runs, 0 Hits, 3 LOB.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Phelps came on in relief of Paola who went to shortstop. Smelly walked but was gunned down trying to steal second. Connor Maguire grounded back to Phelps for the second out and Domagala grounded to short. Ellsworth 0 Runs, 0 Hits, 0 LOB. After six innings, Ellsworth led 3-2 and MDI was coming up for their last chance.

In the top of the seventh, McKim popped out to second base. Paola singled through the left side. Walls then hit a deep shot to center past the diving centerfielder, winding up at second and Paola went to third. Gray then singled past the drawn in infield, scoring both Paola and Walls. Gray went to second on a passed ball. Jake Maguire replaced Connor Maguire on the mound for Ellsworth and he got Carroll to ground out to short, and Alley to fly out to deep centerfield. MDI 2 Runs, 3 Hits, 1 LOB. MDI led 4-3.

Ellsworth came up trailing by 1 in the bottom of the seventh. Domagala struck out on a called third strike. Malone walked and Tyler Getchell ran for Malone. Mahon then walked moving Getchell to second. Jake Maguire flew out to left for the second out and then Phelps got Braley for a swinging strikeout to end the game. Ellsworth 0 Runs, 0 Hits, 2 LOB.

Phelps picked up the win for MDI while Connor Maguire took the loss for Ellsworth. MDI 5-1 nex plays on Thursday, May 2nd when they host Hermon. Ellsworth, falls to 1-4 and hosts Old Town on Thursday, May 2nd.
