MDI Boys Beat Bucksport 56-30
The MDI Boys improved to 2-1 on the season after beating the Bucksport Golden Bucks, Friday, December 14th 56-30 in the MDI Boy’s home opener. Bucksport fell to 2-1 on the season with the loss.
MDI led 9-4 after the 1st Quarter. The Trojans were having some difficulty with Bucksport’s zone defense, and getting the ball inside, and coupled with the fact that Ben Walls picked up two early fouls and was on the bench, the MDI offense was having a little difficulty in getting untracked. In the 2nd Quarter MDI’s offense got into a rhythm. When Coach Justin Norwood had Ben Walls, Woofie Kaiser and Adam Gray in the lineup, with Kaiser and Gray playing high post, the guards were able to cut to the basket! It was 17-6 Trojans after Walls hit a 3 with 4:18 left in the 2nd Quarter, and 23-8 after Jon Phelps stole the ball and scored with a lay up with 3:09 left. It was 29-8 when Phelps stole the ball again and scored with 1:29 left in the 2nd. Abe Philbrook scored 7 of his game high 13 points in the 2nd Quarter hitting a 3 and 2 field goals. MDI held Bucksport to just 4 points in the 2nd Quarter, and the Trojans led 31-8 at the half.
MDI finally got to the free throw line with 6:51 remaining in the 2rd Quarter when Abe Philbrook was fouled and went to the line shooting two. Philbrook converted one of two and Abe Philbrook hit his second three pointer with 6:00 minutes left in the 3rd Quarter, and the Trojan lead was 31, 39-8. Atj the end of the 3rd Quarter, the score was MDI 51- Bucksport 22.
