MDI Boys Double Up John Bapst

The MDI Boys Basketball Team beat John Bapst 68-34 Wednesday, January 2nd in a game played at Bernard Paradis Gymnasium in Bar Harbor. With the win, MDI improves to 4-2, while John Bapst falls to 1-5.

MDI was on the scoreboard first, when Adam Gray scored with 7:20 left and it was 2-0. With 5:33 left MDI's Ben Walls stole the ball and made the lay-up and it was 4-2 Trojans. When Jon Phelps sank a 3 pointer with 2:52 left, the MDI lead was 7, as the score was 9-2. With 2:35 left, John Bapst's Sam Brown hit a 3 pointer and the score was MDI 9 John Bapst 5. Jon Phelps sank two free throws for MDI with 1:11 left and the Trojans led 13-7. The 1st Quarter led with the Trojans on top 15-7.

In the 2nd Quarter, MDI committed their 7th team foul with 6:19 left, and John Bapst had the chance to make some free throws if they could hit their one and ones. Bapst's Brown did just that with 5:56 left, going 2-2 from the free throw line, and the score was 19-11 MDI. With 1:38 left Abe Philbrook scored for MDI and the score was 21-13, and with 42 seconds left, Woofie Kaiser sank a basket, and MDI led 23-13. The 1st Half ended with the score MDI 23- John Bapst 15.

The 3rd Quarter started out well for John Bapst. With 7:45 left Adam Strang scored making the score 25-17, and Colby Kohn hit a 3 pointer with 5:55 left making the score 25-20. But that was the closest Bapst came. With 4:42 left MDI's Colin Mooers made two baskets in less than 30 seconds and MDI led 29-20. With 2:55 left Walls hit a 3 pointer for MDI and the score 2as 32-22, and when Jon Phelps swished a 3 pointer with 1:55 left the score was 37-23. The 3rd Quarter ended with the score MDI 41 John Bapst 23.

The 4th Quarter belonged to the Trojans, as they outscored the Crusaders 27-11. With 7:25 left, Woofie Kaiser went 1-2 from the free throw line, and MDI led 42-23. Phelps went 2-2 from the charity stripe with 6:53 left and MDI led 44-23. With 5:30 left, Phelps stole the ball and made the lay-up and it was 48-26. With 4:59 MDI's Keegan McKim made the lay-up, was fouled and sank the free throw, and the Trojans were up 51-30 and with 40 seconds left in the game, MDI's Andrew Dalton scored, was fouled, and sank the free throw, and MDI was on top 66-32. The final score was MDI 68 John Bapst 34.

MDI scored 44 of their 66 points in the paint, and went 6-8 from the free throw line. John Bapst was 5-10 from the free throw line.
