MDI Boys Ground the Hermon Hawks
The MDI Boys Basketball Team played host to the Hermon Hawks on Wednesday, January 9th and came away with a 71-53 victory.
With the win, MDI improves to 7-2 at the half way point in the season, with MDI’s losses coming to Washington Academy in the opening game of the season and to Presque Isle.
MDI currently is in 6th place in the Class B Heal Points Standings. With the loss, Hermon falls to 5-4, good for 8th place in the Heal Point Standings. These two teams will play again in Hermon in the next to last game of the season, on Wednesday February 6th.
The score was tied at the end of the 1st Quarter 14-14. MDI led 32-23 at the end of the 1st Half, 51-38 after the end of the 3rd Quarter and outscored Hermon in the final quarter 20-15 to come away with the 71-53 victory.
MDI was led by Ben Walls, with 21 points, going 9-11 from the free throw line. Adam Gray had 14 for MDI, going 6-7 from the free throw line. Altogether, the Trojans shot 78.6% from the charity stripe, going 22-28. Hermon was led by Tyler Thayer with 20 points. Jacob Rioux had 14 points including 4 3-pointers in the losing effort for the Hermon Hawks.
Hermon’s next game is this Saturday, January 12th when they will travel up to Aroostook County to play the Caribou Vikings. MDI is off until Tuesday January 15th, when they will travel to Mackenzie Gymnasium in Old Town, to take on the Old Town Coyotes in a game that will be heard on AM 1370 WDEA and WDEA Internet Radio beginning with the pregame at 6:40 PM.
