Presque Isle Girls Top MDI

It was a battle that both MDI and Presque Isle were looking forward to, ever since MDI lost to Presque Isle by 9 points in Presque Isle on December 29th.

The MDI Trojans felt they could play with Presque Isle, and with a little home cooking they would be able to give the Wildcats their first loss of the season, but it wasn't to be, as the Presque Isle Wildcats came away with the 52-40 at Bernard Parady Gymnasium in Bar Harbor.

Presque Isle went on the scoreboard first with 7:43 left as Hannah Graham scored. MDI tied the game and then took a lead when Hannah Shaw scored and Abby Jewett scored and MDI was up 4-2 with 6:45 left in the 1st Quarter. Presque Isle went on a 6-0 run as Chandler Guerrette went 2-2 from the free throw line followed by baskets from Hannah Graham and Guerrette along with a Guerrette free throw and with 4:55 left Presque Isle was up 9-4. MDI's Emily Lewis drained a 3 and with 4:12 left Presque Isle led 9-7.

Guerrette hit a 2 followed by Karlee Bernier's 2 and Presque Isle led 13-7 with 2:28 left. MDI's Molly Carroll scored with 1:13 left and Hannah Shaw went 1-2 from the free throw line and the 1st Quarter ended with Presque Isle lead 13-10.

Presque Isle was on the scoreboard first in the 2nd Quarter as Guerrette scored again with 7:25 left. Hannah Shaw answered with 5:14 left scoring a basket and it was 15-12 PI. Graham's 3-pointer with 5:06 left gave Presque Isle the lead 18-12. Kelsey Shaw coming off the bench for MDI scored with 2:01 left and PI led 18-14. With 8 seconds left in the quarter Chandler Guerrette scored again giving her 11 points in the 1st Half, and at the end of the first half Presque Isle led 20-14.

Abby Jewett scored to start things off in the 3rd Quarter for MDI and with 7:18 left PI led 20-16. But Chandler Guerrette scored a long 3 pointer with 6:57 left and PI was up top 23-16. Hannah Shaw scored and made the free throw after being fouled and with 6:27 PI's lead was 23-19.

Megan Ireland scored for the Wildcats and with 5:55 left PI led 25-19. Hannah Shaw scored again giving her 5 points in the 3rd Quarter and the lead was 25-21, but then she picked up her 4th foul and was forced to the bench. Krystal Kingsbury scored for PI and with 4:40 left PI led 27-21.

Kelsey Shaw answered for MDI and with 2:15 left it was 27-23. Presque Isle went on a 7-0 run to end the 3rd Quarter as Meredith Stewart scored a basket and Guerrette hit a 3 pointer followed by a 2 pointer and the lead was 34-23 Presque Isle after the end of the 3rd Quarter.

Presque Isle increased their lead to 13 after Megan Ireland's 3-pointer went in with 7:02 left and PI was up top 37-23. Sierra Myrick's 3 for MDI with 6:45 made the score 37-26. Kelsey Shaw's basket with 6:10 cut the lead to 37-28. Presque Isle's Stewart's basket and Kingsbury's 2 made the lead 41-28 with 5:26 left. Emily Lewis' 3 pointer for MDI with 5:08 cut the lead to 10, 41-31.

Molly Carroll's 2 point basket with 3:30 left cut the lead to 8, 41-33. Chandler Guerrette went 1-2 from the free throw line with 3:07 left gave PI the 9 point lead 42-33. Sara Phelps 3 pointer with 2:48 left cut the lead to 6, 42-36.

Guerrette scored for Presque Isle and Hannah Graham went 1-2 from the free throw line and it was 45-36 Presque Isle with 2:05 left. Kelsey Shaw then made back to back baskets for MDI  and with 1:45 left the lead was 45-40. But that was as close as the MDI Trojans would get, as Presque Isle went 6-7 from the free throw line as MDI was forced to foul, and the final score was Presque Isle 52 MDI 40.

Presque Isle was led by Chandler Guerrette who scored 24 points including 2 3-pointers and 6-7 from the free throw line. MDI was led by Kelsey and Hannah Shaw who each scored 10 points.

Presque Isle remains unbeaten at 14-0, while MDI falls to 11-2. Both teams are in action Saturday January 26th with MDI hosting Caribou at 1 PM and Presque Isle playing Ellsworth at 1 with that game being broadcast on WDEA AM 1370 and WDEA Internet Radio.
