MDI Girls Softball Splits Doubleheader With Presque Isle

The MDI Girl's Softball team split a doublheader with Presque Isle on Saturday, April 20th in Bar Harbor, losing the first game 10-5 and winning the second game, 5-4.

In Game 1, MDI sent Haley Littlefield to the mound while Presque Isle countered with Laurin Ackerson. Presque Isle jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, scoring 4 runs in the top of the 1st inning. MDI battled back scoring two in the bottom of the 3rd, and two in the bottom of the 4th to tie the score 4-4. Presque Isle scored a run in the top of the 5th, but MDI pushed across a run in the bottom of the 6th, and after 6, the score was tied 5-5. But Presque Isle erupted for 5 runs in the top of the 7th, and won the game 10-5

Both pitchers pitched complete games. Presque Isle's  Ackerson allowed 11 hits, 5 earned runs and struck out two while walking two for the win. MDI's  Littlefield allowed 10 hits, 8 earned runs, struck out five and walked four. MDI committed three errors.

In Game 2, Presque Isle sent Laurin Ackerson back out to the mound, while MDI countered with Hannah Shaw. MDI scored first, with a run in the bottom of the first, and three in the bottom of the 3rd, making it 4-0. They pushed across another run in the bottom of the 5th inning and led 5-0. Hannah Shaw went out to the mound at the top of the 6th, but ran into trouble, giving up 4 earned runs, and was relieved by Haley Littlefield who pitched two scoreless innings for the save. Ackerson allowed 5 runs, struck out 3 and walked 3 for the loss. MDI's Shaw allowed 1 run in 5 complete innings, giving up 4 earned runs, walking 6 and striking out 12 to earn the win for MDI. Littlefield allowed 2 hits, 0 runs, struck out 1 and walked no one for the save. MDI had 1 error

MDI is now 1-2 on the season, and play host to Washington Academy 2-1 on Tuesday, April 23. Presque Isle is now 1-3 and will play at Houlton on Tuesday. Houlton will be playing their first game of the season when they host Presque Isle.
