In a battle of two preseason favorites in Class B it was MDI sinking foul shots late to beat Old Town in their respective openers 72-58 at MacKenzie Gymnasium. The Trojans led by four points at the half and each spent the second half sharing the lead thanks to momentum changing runs.

After Old Town's Chad Bartlett received an ejection as a result of a double technical, MDI hit 4 of 6 free throws but it also sparked a 10-2 run by the Coyotes.

MDI would then turn the tables and use a 15-2 run at the end of the 3rd quarter that spanned into the 4th to take the lead for good. MDI outscored the Coyotes 27-14 in the final quarter with 18 of those points coming from the foul line. Russell Kropff led the Trojans with 23 points and went 10-12 on the line.
