The MDI Trojans used stifling man-to-man defense to keep the Orono scoring attack in check and come away with a regional title and a trip to the Class B state title game next week.

The No. 2 Trojans' relentless defense along with a consistent offensive effort over four quarters led them to a 42-34 win over the No. 4 Red Riots Saturday afternoon at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.

Despite their efforts, MDI was unable to pull away form the Red Riots, and Orono was able to cut the lead to two points with 1:31 left on a Jackson Coutts thee-pointer. But that was as close as the Red Riots would come as MDI was able to hit key shots in the final minute to seal the win.

Senior Riley Swanson led the Trojans with 12 points. Graham Good and Aaron Snurkowski each added seven points.

Keenan Collette led the Red Riots with 10 points. Senior Nate Desisto added eight points.

MDI will play Wells at 7:45 p.m. on Friday, March 4 at the Augusta Civic Center.
