MDI High School senior Opal Curless is 2015-16 Gatorade Maine Girl's Soccer Player of the Year.

The award recognizes outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field.

The 5'8" senior midfielder and forward scored 28 goals and had 12 assists in the fall for the MDI Torjans. Curless was recognized by the Maine Soccer Coaches Association as the Class B Player of the Year. She was also selected as an All-American and also selected to the All New England team,  Curless was additionally selected as PVC Girl’s Player of the Year. Curless ended her high school career with 80 career goals.

Curless is rated as the number 68 recruit in the Class of 2016 by TopDrawerSoccer.com.

Curless has maintainerd a 3.73 GPA. She is a ballet dancer who has appeared in a stage production of the Nutcracker, and is a member of the MDI Student Council and has volunteered with the SPCA of Hancock County and also been a youth soccer coach.

Curless signed her National Letter of Intent to attend Syracuse University on Wednesday, February 3rd.
