Mount Desert Island senior running back Elijah Joyce has been named the First National Bank High School Athlete of the Week after rushing for 314 yards and three touchdowns against Hampden last weekend.

Joyce won with 35 percent of the vote.

He scored twice in the first quarter of MDI's 22-0 triumph at Hampden Academy on Friday night.

Joyce, 5-10, 185-pounds, rushed for all 74 yards of a six-play, fourth-quarter drive that ended with a 36-yard touchdown run.

Other nominees this week included James Neel of Bangor (two touchdowns, 108 rushing yards), Andrew Haining of Nokomis (158 passing yards, two touchdowns), Marcus Christopher of Skowhegan (308 passing yards, four touchdowns) and Eric Wescott of Madison (133 rushing yards, three rushing touchdowns and one touchdown pass).

Alex Demers of Winslow was last week's First National Bank High School Athlete of the Week. He was the first student athlete to receive the honor during the 2018 fall sports season.
