They are standouts in their community because of the volunteer work they perform, today they will be recognized with a 2015 Sports Hero's Award.Tom Christie of Dedham, Dave Wolinski of Newport and Nick Chiappone of Orrington were selected by a special panel of voters from an impressive list of nominees. They will receive their awards at a luncheon held at Hero's Sports Grill surrounded by friends, family and those who have been impacted by their service.

Tom Christie

Tom is from Dedham and has been a teacher and coach for over 30 years. He has helped out volunteering with most every sporting event in Dedham and surrounding towns. Whether it’s open gyms for travel teams or kids to shoot around, Tom is there. He officiates local rec sports, helped with punt; pass and kick…pitch, hit and run programs. He helps with athletic fields and running trails. Tom is also President of the Mid-Maine Middle School Sports League.

Dave Wolinski

Dave Wolinski from Newport spends his time in retirement as a volunteer for Nokomis Regional High School Athletics to the tune of 35 or so hours a week. For the past 10 years he has been a soccer camp director and volunteers with lining and dragging the fields, serving hot dogs at games and raising money for boys and girls soccer.

Nick Chiappone

Nick is a volunteer with the Orrington Little League program He serves on the board of directors, coaches and serves as equipment and field maintenance manager. Over the last year Nick has helped to get a new press box and storage building constructed at the field. From fixing a door handle to snow blowing to get the field ready for spring, Nick is the go-to guy.
