Major League Baseball has named Red Sox co-owner Tom Werner to a seven-member committee that will try to find ways to speed up games. That topic has been a front burner issue for Werner, so much so that he became a serious contender for the commissioner job. Ultimately, Rob Manfred got that job.

So Werner and six others will come up with ideas to decrease the average time of a MLB game. The average baseball game is around 3-hours and 2-minutes in 2014.

MLB VP Joe Torre, players union rep and former player Tony Clark will be part of the committee.

Among the ideas Werner has proposed in the past is limiting the number of times a batter can step out of the box and putting a clock on the time pitchers have in between pitches.
