The National Arena League says it plans to bring an arena fooball team to Portland and play at the Cross Insurance Arena.

The NAL is one several arena football leagues, completing its first season this year. Teams include the Columbus Lions, Lehigh Valley Steelhawks, Massachusetts Pirates, Jacksonville Sharks and the Jersey Flight. Not all franchises are returning for 2018.

According to the league's website, a press conference is being held this week in Worcester, Massachusetts to announce a team for that city. And, press conferences will be held later this month in Portland and in Greensboro, North Carolina for more teams.

Cross Insurance Arena officials say no paperwork has been signed yet on a deal.

Arena football is indoor football played on a 50-yard field with eight on eight teams.
