History at Alfond Stadium in Orono Saturday afternoon. The UMaine Black Bears pounded Jacksonville State (AL) 55-27, giving Maine its first trip to the NCAA FCS Elite Eight.

Only eight teams are still standing and the Bears are of them.

Maine jumped on the Gamecocks for three straight touchdowns in the first quarter.

JSU came back with two quick TDs to make it 21-14 early in the second quarter.

But the Black Bears answered with three straight touchdowns and led 42-14 at the half.

Each team scored 13 second half points.

When the dust settled, Maine quarterback Chris Ferguson had thrown a school record  five TD passes.

Ramon Jefferson ran 26 times for 186 yards and two TDs.

Ernest Edwards caught two touchdown passes.

And, the Black Bear defense forced two fumbles, forced an interception and had four sacks on JSU quarterback Zerrick Cooper.

6,100 watched Maine win its first-ever home second round playoff game and now it's on to either Weber State or E. Missouri State.
