Most people will remember him as the quarterback that the Indianapolis Colts ‘almost’ drafted. Unfortunately for Ryan Leaf, many people will also remember him as the biggest flameout in NFL history.

The former Washington State Cougar quarterback was passed up by the Colts in favor of Peyton Manning. Leaf fell to the San Diego Chargers at #2.

Leaf has continued to fall. In his brief stay in San Diego, Leaf was known as much for his explosive temper as he was for his inadequacies on the football field.

He would play for the Chargers from 1998-2000, then bounce around the NFL for two years with the Cowboys, Buccaneers and Seahawks.

Since then, Leaf has been in and out of trouble with the law for various offenses usually centered around drugs.

Now, he is headed to jail.

Leaf was serving time in a drug treatment center in Montana as part of a plea deal after pleading guilty to burglary and possession of dangerous drugs. However, he was transfered to prison after he reportedly threatened a member of the treatment center staff.

The Montana Department of Corrections released a statement that said:

“The Montana Department of Corrections terminated Leaf from the treatment program and placed him in prison after he was found guilty of behavior that violated conditions of his drug treatment program. The violations included threatening a program staff member.”

Pam Bunke, administrator for the Adult Community Corrections Divistion that oversees the drug treatment center, said that Leaf was too great a security risk for a community setting.

Leaf still faces a probation violation hearing in Texas for an incident in which he was charged for stealing prescription pain medicine.
