The Boston Bruins playing in the Central Division of the NHL? Sounds weird but it could happen as early as next year with the total realignment of the league.

This is the latest proposal....

Eastern Conference

Atlantic Division: Carolina, Columbus, New Jersey, New York Islanders, New York Rangers, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Washington.

Central Division: Boston, Buffalo, Detroit, Florida, Montreal, Ottawa, Tampa Bay, Toronto.

Western Conference

Pacific Division: Anaheim, Calgary, Edmonton, Los Angeles, Phoenix, San Jose and Vancouver.

Mid-West Division: Blackhawks, Colorado, Dallas, Minnesota, Nashville, St. Louis and Winnipeg.

For the Bruins it might mean a little tougher competition with the Detroit Red Wings added to their Central Division. It would mean we would see former UMaine Black Bear players like Jimmy Howard and Gustav Nyquist more often.

The players association and the league's board of governors still must approve the plan.
