When the Boston Bruins take the ice in the Winter Classic Friday Brad Marchand will not be with them after getting a 3-game suspension from the NHL.

Not only will he lose three games but his suspension is also without pay. Marchand will lose $164,634.15 of salary which will go into the players emergency assistance fund.

The suspension is a result of Marchand's hit on Ottawa defenseman Mark Borowiecki in Tuesday's win. If the penalty seems harsh it's because the Bruins forward is considered a repeat offender after receiving previous punishments from the league for illegal hits.

In addition to missing Friday's outdoor game at Gillette Stadium against the Canadiens, he will also miss games against Washington and New Jersey.
