Just three days after winning the grueling five-day state championship American Legion Tournament, the Coffee News Bangor Comrades begin their quest for a Northeast Regional championship this morning.

The eight team, double elimination tourney will be played at historic Fitton Field at Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. The Crusaders played their first game at Fitton back in 1905.

It has been almost that long since Bangor's opening opponent, Franklin County Post #1 in Vermont, has been in a regional. Try 83 years! Their last Vermont state title was in 1934 and the Franklin County team knocked off the #1 and #2 seeds to claim the Vermont title.

The Coffee News Comrades are in the regional for the third time in the last four years.

But, Bangor will need to win at least one of its first two games in order to get top pitcher Jesse Colford back on the hill. The pitch count rule keeps him ineligible to pitch until Friday. That means Gary Farnham starts today vs Vermont and most likely Ethan Stoddard in game two.
