Newly acquired Eduardo Nunez hit two home runs and drove in the winning run on an infield ground out in the 10th inning as the Red Sox beat the KC Royals 9-8. The win keeps the Sox a half-game behind the Yankees for first place in the AL East.

The two teams kept swapping leads. Sox led 2-0, KC led 4-2, Sox led 6-4, KC led 8-6.

But the game was tied 8-8 after nine innings.

In the 10th, Sandy Leon doubled to get things started. He eventually went to third on a wild pitch. And then scored on a terrific slide at home.

Matt Barnes picked up the win, he's 6-2 now. Christian Vazquez, who started at catcher, had a double, triple and knocked in two runs.

The Sox are 57-48 with a final game against KC this afternoon.
