The Old Town Coyotes defeated MDI in softball at Old Town High School on a beautiful afternoon on Monday, May 4th 6-2.

MDI manufactured a run in the top of the 1st inning. Darcy Kanu walked, and stole 2nd base, and went to 3rd base on a passed ball. Avalon Kerley singled driving in Kanu and MDI led 1-0.

Old Town knotted the score in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Lauren Gasaway reached on a fielder's choice and then scored on errors by the MDI shortstop

In the bottom of the 3rd inning Old Town scored 3 more runs to take a 4-1 lead. Gasaway's single drove in 2 runs

In the 4th inning, Old Town scored again to make it 5-1. Mikayla Richrds doubled, and advanced to 3rd on a passed ball, and scored on Milton's sacrifice fly.

MDi had a chance to do some damage in the 5th inning as they had the bases loaded with one out, but Rachel Martin, the Old Town pitcher struck out Ali Bierman and Riley Mooers to get out of the inning without a run scoring.

Old Town scored their final run in the 5th inning. Richards walked and scored on a bunt by Cousins.

MDI scored in the top of the 7th,  Madison Thornton had a great at bat, fouling off pitch after pitch to stay alive before singling just over the 2nd base bag. She was out at 2nd on a fielder's choice and Darcy Kanu took 1st. Kanu then stole 2nd and 3rd base and came home on Molly Carroll's ground out.

Rachel Martin picked up the win for Old Town, pitching a complete game, allowing 2 earned runs on 7 hits. She struck out 9 and walked 2.

Haley Littlefield took the loss for MDI, allowing 6 runs, 2 earned, on 8 hits. She struck out 2 and walked 2.

For MDI Thornton was 1-1, Carroll was 1-4, Kerley 2-4, Ali Bierman was 1-3 and Cassidy Parady was 2-3.

For Old Town, Cousins was 2-4, Hussey was 1-4, Rachel Martin was 1-4, Madden was 1-3, Gasaway was 1-3, Richards was 1-2 and Lauren Martin was 1-2.

MDI is now 2-5. They play at home on Wednesday May 6th against John Bapst at 4:30 before going up to Aroostook County to play a doubleheader at Caribou on Saturday, May 9th.

Old Town is undefeated at 7-0 They will play at Hermon on Tuesday, May 5th in a make-up game from April 23rd, and then host Ellsworth on Thursday, May 7th.
