When the high school baseball and softball quarterfinals begin Thursday the Old Town teams will go in with the PVC Players and Pitchers of the Year.Eric Hoogterp won the baseball player and pitcher awards while Rachel Martin won both in softball.

Hoogterp's team will be the number one seed in the class B tourney and has been a key to the Coyote's success. As a pitcher he is 3-0 with a 0.31 ERA to go along with 26 strikeouts.

At the plate he has a conference best .650 batting average with 19 rbi and 12 stolen bases. Hoogterp ranks number one in 8 of the 9 statistical categories on offense.

Martin finished the regular season 11-1 in the pitching circle with a 0.36 ERA. She struck out 103 over just 77 innings to win the award for the second consecutive season.

While Martin had success holding other offenses in check, she was equally successful ripping apart opposing defenses at the plate. Martin hit .510 while driving in 27 runs and scoring 25. The senior was also tearing up the base paths with 15 stolen bases.

The Old Town baseball team will host the winner of the Ellsworth vs. Erskine play-in game. The softball team will also host the Ellsworth vs. Erskine play-in winner in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
