The New England Patriots have two key pieces of their defense that were set for free agency on Tuesday. One of those pieces is off the market after the team re-signed Devin McCourty to a 5 year 47.5 million dollar deal.

Reports indicate the two sides were about to cut off talks Sunday when McCourty thanked coach Bill Belichick for a great five years during a phone conversation. McCourty gets 28.5 million of the deal guaranteed and becomes the second highest paid safety in the game.

The other piece of the defensive backfield is cornerback Darelle Revis who is expected to receive significant offers from other teams.
