The Patriots traded safety Jordan Richards to the Falcons on Friday for a conditional seventh-round pick, according to reports.

ESPN reported that the pick will be in the 2020 draft.

Richards was selected by the Patriots in the second-round of the 2015 draft.

The 5-11, 210-pound defensive back was on the roster bubble in New England, starting and playing a good chunk of the Patriots' final preseason game, recording one tackle. For the most part, players with secure roster spots do not play in the final preseason game.

Safety is one of the Patriots' most stable positions, as Devin McCourty, Patrick Chung, and Duron Harmon are a formidable trio.

The move may indicate that veteran cornerback Jason McCourty, who has played safety at times during the preseason, will make the final 53-man roster.
