The New England Patriots have signed former UMaine linebacker and Westbrook HS standout Trevor Bates to their practice squad. FB Glen Gronkowski was released to make room for him.

The Patriots worked out Bates two weeks ago. And, the Patriots were one of several NFL teams in attendance back in March when UMaine players had their workout day for scouts.

Bates is 6-foot-2 and 247-pounds.

He was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the 7th round back in April and opened the season on their practice squad.

Then in week five he was activated to the 53-man roster, played 22 special teams snaps against the Chicago Bears and was released.

The Patriots return to work after last week's bye. They play the Seattle Seahawks Sunday night.

NOTE: The Patriots vs Seattle game is live on Sports Radio 92.9 The Ticket with coverage starting at 5:30pm.
