New England Patriots’ special-teamer Nate Ebner has been named to the United States Olympic rugby Olympic roster.

Ebner was granted a temporary leave from the Pats to try to make the 2016 Rio games in August and was just announced to the US team in the Men’s Sevens competition.  The special teamer will be back with New England after the event and will likely not miss any of the regular season.

The US team will be playing in Pool A against Brazil, Argentina, and Fiji in the event and will begin more training in New Zealand on August 1st for their last preparations.

Ebner was said to be trying to make the Olympic roster to honor his father who was murdered in 2010 and was a collegiate rugby player.
