BREAKING NEWS: The Houston Astros have drafted UMaine shortstop Jeremy Pena in the third round of the MLB Draft this afternoon. Pena was the 102nd player taken in the draft.

MLB.com projects the draft pick dollar value at $549, 700.

Pena is a junior and will now have to decide whether to turn pro or return for his senior year.

He was the seventh out of eight shortstops drafted in the 3rd round.

Pena finished the recent America East Tournament 5-for-17 with three doubles and two RBI. He handled 23 fielding chances without an error.

For the season, Pena batted .308 and played in all 54 games. He had nine doubles, five triples, five home runs and 28 RBI. In the field, Pena handled 258 chances, made 11 errors for a fielding percentage of .957%.

UPDATE: UMaine catcher Chris Bec has been drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 5th round. Bec was the 146th pick in the draft. He just finished his senior year at UMaine.
