A high speed police chase yesterday ended when the driver being pursued ran into a house. Police say the man and his long-time partner live in the home together.

According to the Kennebec Journal, the house belongs to 67-year-old Edwin Munson's partner, Pauline Ashcroft. State Police were first alerted to Munson Wednesday night when they were sent to her son's Litchfield home to a report that he was screaming threats to burn down the man's house. Police say when Munson was told troopers were on their way, he hopped in a Corvette and took off.

Troopers responding to the complaint spotted the 'Vette on Route 126 in West Gardiner. They stopped the car, but Munson refused to turn off the engine or even put the car in park. When the troopers began to approach the car, Munson sped off.

Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says, at one point in the pursuit, Munson did a 180 turn and rammed Trooper Seth Allen's cruiser, and then struck one being driven by Trooper Clayton Peckham. The troopers were not hurt, but Allen's car was demolished. The chase was called off at that point and other law enforcement agencies were notified.

Later, Winthrop Police located the car, as it was pulling into a Circle K on Main Street. Sergeant Daniel Cook followed the Corvette into the parking lot, where Munson tried to ram his cruiser. Cook was able to avoid being hit, and Munson took off for the second chase of the night.

The pursuit ended when Munson pulled into the driveway of Ashcroft's Annabessacook Road home. He sped up the driveway and crashed his car into the side of the house, in the area of the kitchen. No one was home at the time and no one was injured. Munson owns a car lot and police say it's believed that's where the car originated, as he was not known to drive a Corvette.

Munson is facing several charges from the State Police, including terrorizing and criminal threatening. He's been in the news before, regarding on ongoing dispute with the town of Readfield over cows wandering into the road.
