Police are conducting interviews to try and determine what caused a 31-year-old woman to drown. The woman's body was pulled from the river on Tuesday near where she lived.

According to the Kennebec Journal, Amber Cobb was recovered from the Kennebec River at around 3:00 Tuesday afternoon. She was pronounced dead after being taken to MaineGeneral Hospital. Investigators say the woman went into the water at around 1:45 near the Shawmut Dam. Her body was recovered near the Fairfield Family Apartments on Route 201, where Cobb lived. It's not clear how or why she went into the water.

Police are conducting interviews, including with a man and child, who appeared to have been with the woman when she went in the water.An area resident told the Kennebec Journal that the Shawmut Dam is a popular swimming and fishing spot.

An autopsy is scheduled to determine cause of death.
