Pro golfers from all over the country come to Bangor this week for the 48th Greater Bangor Open Tournament. The winner will walk away with a $9,000 check.

But first, the GBO Pro-Am event today. A chance for the pros to check out the Bangor Municipal course and a chance for amateurs to play with the big hitters.

The three-day tournament begins tomorrow.

Defending champion, Eric Steger, a pro from Connecticut is not in the field this year. Steger won the GBO with a 9-under par score in the rain shortened tournament.

2013 runner-up Jesse Larson from Vermont will be in the field. Larsen finished 7-under par last year.

Some of the Maine golfers in the field include Sean Gorgone, John Hickson, Shawn Warren, Ryan Gay and newly named Husson golf coach Mike Dugas.

Among the past GBO competitors who have gone on to the PGA Tour - Sean O'Hair, Keegan Bradley, Lanny Wadkins and Jeff Sluman.
