Profar, Bogaerts SRWS Grads Top Prospects
In 2008 Jurickson Profar was a 16-year-old kid playing at Mansfield Stadium in Bangor leading his team from Curacao to a Senior League World Series runner-up spot. Today Profar is the #1 baseball prospect according to MLB.com.
Profar is a shortstop in the Texas Rangers system and was an allstar in double-A. He got called up during the Rangers pennant drive. Several teams have asked Texas about acquiring him in a trade. So far the Rangers have said no.
Meanwhile, the #1 prospect for the Boston Red Sox is also a graduate of the Senior League World Series in Bangor. Xander Bogaerts played at Mansfield Stadium in 2009 as a member of the Latin America team from Aruba. His team lost in the semi-finals.
Bogaerts signed with the Sox after the series and has been rocketing through their minor league system.He finished last summer with the Portland Seadogs in double-A and he is expected to be at Hadlock Field when the Seadogs season opens in April.
Pitcher Matt Barnes is listed as the Sox #2 prospect according to MLB.com. OF Jackie Bradley Jr is #3, OF Bryce Brentz is #4 and P Allen Webster(acquired in that big trade with LA) is #5.
