The Rangeley Lakers held off a late charge from the Shead Tigers to claim the Class D girls state title Saturday afternoon in Augusta.

The Tigers, of Eastport, were able to cut the lead to three points late in the game, but the Lakers were able to sink key free throws down the stretch on their way to a 28-22 win.

Senior Blayke Morin led the Lakers with 10 points.

For Shead, Holly Preston had 10 points. Cierra Seely had 8 points and Katelyn Mitchell added 4.

It's the first girls state title in 12 years for the Rangeley girls.
