The Orono Red Riots claimed the Class C North title with a 2-1 victory over Dexter on Wednesday night.

Orono snagged an early lead versus the Tigers and tallied another go-ahead run in the fifth inning to secure the championship and the right to play in the state title game on Saturday afternoon.  Jackson Coutts picked up the win with three innings of hitless relief, while starter Nate Desisto logged a no-decision with four innings pitched, allowing one unearned run on two hits and four walks.  Desisto also plated two runs batted in, including the game winner in the fifth when he scored Coutts from second base on a single.

The Red Riots were able to escape multiple jams in the first two innings, stranding four runners on the base paths against Dexter.  The Tigers were able to even the score in the third with a run scoring on an error was committed in the field by Coutts.  Dexter was unable to log another hit after the third inning and had one lone base runner in the fifth by way of another error.

Tigers’ starter Jacob Bickford received the loss with two earned runs over six innings and gave up five hits with three walks, striking out four.  Dexter falls to 12-7 on the year, ending the Tigers’ season, while Orono improves to 13-6 and will face Lisbon on Saturday afternoon in the title game after they bested Monmouth 12-5.

The Bucksport Golden Bucks will stay unbeaten in the Class C softball ranks as they scored some late inning heroics to win the title over Mattanawcook Academy 2-1.

Madysen Robichaud hit a two-run home run with two-outs in the seventh inning to give the Bucks the win in the championship game.  Bucksport moves to 19-0 on the season as they will face Madison in a rematch of last season.
